I’ve sent in my daughters paperwork for her disability by fax and they got it, I was just wondering if I will find out if that helped me in anyway to being closer to finding a home? They told me to fill the disability paperwork because it may help move me in line a little! We are on the lines of having to move from our families house soon and they are trying to wait as long as they can so, I’m checking in to see if anything has changed or if you can answer any of my questions! Thank You

If you sent in your daughter’s current Social Security Award Letter to show that she receives it for disability, then you would be eligible for a preference on the waitlist. That means, you’d get bumped up on the waitlist according to the date and time of your application. Generally, for Public Housing, eligibility is determined once you get close to the top of the list and assistance is given once you are deemed eligible and are in position #1 on the Public Housing waitlist. Public Housing is a waitlist program and housing is not immediate and we do not have emergency housing. It can generally take between 6 months to a year or more before an applicant’s name reaches the top of the list.

Will clients have to come in person to fill out the application or will it be online for them to print out and drop off to the office.

    Thank you

    • Reply Margery Alexis - 05/11/2021

Applicants will have to fill the applications out in person and no, they won’t be available online unless, an applicant is disabled and requests a reasonable accommodation to receive a mailed application [further requirements apply for reasonable accommodations]. Applications will only be available at our Resource Center on application day (3rd Wednesday of every month) and they can only be obtained that day from our Resource Center located at 502 S Bacher St, Bunnell, Fl, 32110.

But since you have SSI, if submit your request for a paper application in writing to PO BOX 188, Bunnell, FL, 32110, along with a copy of a current SSI letter (dated within the last 60 days) and a copy of your ID, you will be able to receive a paper application. Once I get on the waiting list how long before I can move into a facility? Will this be for public apartments or for special housing for low income only?

    • Reply Margery Alexis - 06/21/2021

It depends on the waitlist that you’ve applied to. The section8 waitlist can take months to years before an applicant reaches to the top. Our Section 8 has not been open since April 2017 and we have been assisting applicants from our waitlist since then and we are finally opening it on July 6, 2021; just to give you an idea. However, Public Housing works differently. Unit availability is based on unit size and unit vacancies. For example, while Public Housing tends to have more open vacancies for 1 bedroom units, it’s 1 unit bedroom waitlist is longer in comparison to, let’s say, the 4 bedroom waitlist, which is shorter with fewer applicants and the availability for 4 bedroom units does not become available until tenants move out. That is just an example to give you an idea but there are many variables that also contribute to the wait time. It is difficult to provide even an estimate to applicants on the waitlist unless you are close to the top or at the top of the waitlist.

The waitlist for Public Housing opens every 3rd Wednesday of the month from 8am-11am at our Resource Center located at 502 S Bacher St, Bunnell, Fl, 32110. The Section8 waitlist will be opening 7/6/21 at 8:30am and we are accepting up to 300 applications. I am a mother with three children and a nephew that I have taken in as my own. My current landlady is selling her house and wants us out by the first. Rental options are limited right now and I don’t know where to turn for help. Would I be able to come put in an application for this assistance or does it need to be on a current rental?

    • Reply Margery Alexis - 06/21/2021

If you are looking for rental assistance for a place where you are currently living or going to be living, by the 1st, we would not be able to assist immediately as we do not provide emergency housing assistance. However, you are welcome to apply to any of our housing programs. Please visit our website for more information about our programs and how to apply. Click here to visit our website

    • Reply Margery Alexis - 06/21/2021

If you receive SSI, you would be able to request a paper application as a reasonable accommodation for any of our housing programs. A paper application would allow you to receive a mailed/emailed application instead of traveling to our site to apply. Otherwise, you would have to apply for Public Housing in person or if you want to apply for Section8, you’d only be able to apply online on July6th. I lived in Flagler County for 27 years and moved to Georgia May 2020.
I’m on Social Security Disability and desperately needs to apply for housing. The landlord here just informed me that I have to leave by August 31, 2021, and I have absolutely nowhere to go as I don’t know anyone here. All I need is 1 bedroom, but will take anything available. Please can you help?

My father is 65 years old and is receiving a little over $300 from social security., would he be eligible fir this program, he can no longer afford his rent which went up to $1100

    • Reply Margery Alexis - 08/16/2021

Anyone can apply to our housing programs. However, eligibility isn’t determined until an applicant gets closer to the top of the list. Because assistance is income-based, each application is reviewed case-by-case. Therefore, a determination of eligibility would not be available until further review and a more thorough assessment has been done. In order to receive assistance, an applicant would first have to apply to get on the waitlist for the program. Currently, the waitlist for Public Housing opens every 3rd Wednesday of the month from 8am-11am at our Resource Center located at 502 S Bacher St, Bunnell, Fl, 32110. The waitlist for our Section8 program is currently closed. Please visit our website for more information about our programs and how to apply.
